Ticket types

Learn about ticket types and periods of validity, and stopovers.

Ordinary tickets One-way tickets
  • Used to ride from the station of purchase.
  • Valid for day of purchase.
  • * Stopovers are not possible.
Return tickets
  • Tickets for Haneda Airport International Terminal Station, Haneda Airport Terminal 1 Station and Haneda Airport Terminal 2 Station are valid for 10 days.
  • Tickets for other stations are valid for 2 weeks.
  • * Stopovers are not possible.
Multiple-trip tickets Ordinary multiple-trip tickets
  • Sold in books of 11. Valid for 3 months.
  • * Stopovers and changes of rail section are not possible.
  • * Up to 2 children can use 1 adult multiple-trip ticket.
School commutation multiple-trip tickets
  • Sold in books of 11. Valid for 2 months.
  • * Open University of Japan Student Passenger Discount Certificate required.
  • * Stopovers and changes of rail section are not possible.
Commuter passes
  • New commuter passes can be purchased up to 7 days in advance, renewed commuter passes can be purchased up to 14 days in advance.
  • Can be purchased at: Monorail Hamamatsucho Station, Haneda Airport International Terminal Station, Haneda Airport Terminal 1 Station and Haneda Airport Terminal 2 Station.
  • Can be purchased from opening until 11:00pm at commuter pass machines. (Operating every day)
Group tickets
  • Used to ride from the station of purchase
  • Can be purchased up to 21 days in advance.
  • Valid only on date of use only.

  • Ordinary consigned tickets: Valid for 1 month from date of purchase.
  • Multiple-trip consigned tickets: Valid for 3 months from date of purchase.

Baggage and belongings

Items you can bring aboard free of charge

  • Up to 2 items of a combined weight of 30kg or less and less than 250cm in their largest dimensions (Travel trunks, skis, etc.)

Items that carry a charge to bring aboard (¥270 per item)

  • Small dogs, cats, birds, or other animals (in a container less than 70cm in its largest dimension, total height, width and depth of less than 90cm, and total weight of 10kg or less)
  • Racing bicycles for keirin use.

Prohibited items

  • Dangerous articles (Large amounts of matches, gasoline, etc.)
  • Other articles which may harm other passengers.

Adults and children

"Adults" and "children" are defined as follows:

Adults Ages 12 and over (a 12 year old who is in elementary school is still a "child")
Children Ages 5-11 (a 6 year old who has not yet entered school is an "infant")
Infant 1-5 years old
Baby Less than 1 year old

Child fares

A child ticket is half the price of an adult ticket. Prices are rounded up to the nearest ¥5.

Fares for infants and babies

Infants and babies are free, but child tickets are necessary in the following cases:

  1. More than 2 infants ride with one adult or child.
    (Each infant beyond 2 requires a child ticket.)
  2. An infant rides alone.

About refunds

Unused, valid tickets and commuter passes

The following fees will be charged upon refunds:

Unused tickets and commuter passes

The following fees will be charged upon refunds:

Used for 3 months (a period of less than 3 months is rounded up to 3 months) Refunded amount = Price of commuter pass - (Price of 3 month commuter pass + ¥210 fee)

Change of rail section (For a new commuter pass when an old commuter pass is no longer needed)** Refunded amount = Price of commuter pass - (Rate of commuter pass discount x 10 x time used*** + ¥210 fee)
  • * In some cases, there will be no amount refunded.
  • ** Commuter passes with less than 10 days remaining cannot be refunded.
  • *** Time used is calculated per 10 days (a period of less than 10 days is rounded up to 10 days).

About group fares

More than 15 customers using the same rail section at the same time can use Tokyo Monorail group tickets.

  • For an ordinary group of 178 adults:
    178 divided by 50 is 3.56, meaning 4 can ride for free.
    178 minus 4 is 174, meaning 174 people have to pay.
    ¥470 times 0.9 is ¥423, which is rounded up to ¥430. ¥430 times 174 is ¥74,820.
  • For a student group of 8 teachers, 30 students, and 10 guardians:
    48 (8+30+10) divided by 30 means 2 can ride for free.
    8 teachers minus 2 is 6, so 6 teachers have to pay.
    ¥240 times 0.7 is ¥168, rounded up to ¥170. ¥170 times 6 is ¥1,020
    ¥240 times 0.7 is ¥168, rounded up to ¥170. ¥170 times 30 students is ¥5,100.
    ¥470 times 0.9 is ¥423, rounded up to ¥430. ¥430 times 10 guardians is ¥4,300.
    ¥1,020 + ¥5,100 + ¥4,300 = ¥10,420 in total.
